Far Infrared Sauna FAQs

Far Infrared Sauna FAQs

Q. Is an infrared sauna completely safe?
A. Infrared energy is a naturally occurring, invisible form of electromagnetic radiation that we experience every day in sunlight. Infrared does not cause the skin to burn, and should not be confused with ultra-violet light. An infrared sauna is completely safe for anyone in reasonably good health, and can be used on a daily basis. Because a significant amount of sweating occurs while using any type of sauna, it is important to consume plenty of fluids before and after use, preferably an electrolyte replacement water or sports drink to ensure proper hydration.

Q. How much time should I spend in an infrared sauna?
A. A typical session in an infrared sauna lasts approximately 30 minutes. When first using a sauna, it is good practice to increase the time within the sauna incrementally. Starting with a session of about 10-15 minutes and increasing to 25-30 minutes over the course of 7-10 days is a good way to acclimate your body to the regular increases in core temperature and metabolic rate.

Q. How difficult are these units to assemble?
A. A modular infrared sauna is remarkably easy to assemble, and takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

Q. Will I be able to move the location of my sauna once it is installed, or take it with me if I move?
A. Yes. You will be able to disassemble and move your sauna at any time.

Q. What kind of surface can I install the sauna on?
A. Any hard, level surface that will not absorb moisture. Ceramic tile, linoleum or concrete are ideal.

Q. Does an infrared sauna require plumbing?
A. No.

Q. Can I plug an infrared unit into a standard wall outlet?
A. Depending on the size and corresponding power requirement of the unit, the sauna will require either a standard 120 volt / 15 amp wall outlet, a 120 volt / 20 amp wall outlet, or a 240 volt hook-up to the household electrical system.

Q. Can I perform any necessary electrical wiring myself?
A. Any necessary electrical wiring should always be performed by a licensed and bonded electrician.

Q. Can I install my sauna outdoors?
A. A weatherproof roof or installation under a porch or overhang is necessary when installing a sauna outdoors. A sauna made of cedar has a naturally weatherproof quality, however additional weatherproofing, such as a water seal or wood sealer should be considered in situations with regular heavy rain or high humidity.

Q. Can you provide saunas made with hypoallergenic wood?
A. Yes, many of our models are available in hypoallergenic white wood construction, such as Poplar or Hemlock.
