About Steam Showers
In addition to modular and custom sauna kits and sauna heaters, The Sauna House offers a range of products for steam bathing as well. We carry several models of modular steam showers, as well as steam generators to convert an existing shower or other water and vapor proof space into a steam room. The primary difference between a sauna and steam shower is that a sauna, whether traditional or infrared, is essentially a dry heat. In a traditional sauna, water can be poured over the heat stones to create steam, but a steam room uses steam as it's primary source for heat. In a steam shower or steam room, the humidity can exceed 100%, but operates at much lower temperatures than a sauna. Steam showers share many of the same health and relaxation benefits that are common to a sauna. These include increased metabolism and blood circulation, relief of arthritic discomfort and muscle tension, improved skin complexion, and relief of stress promoting better sleep and overall well-being. To make a steam shower a reality in your home, you may choose to purchase and install a pre-fabricated acrylic/fiberglass modular unit that can include both steam and traditional shower heads, or, a steam shower can be created without using any additional floor space at all. An existing shower unit or room can be converted for steam use by adding a vapor proof door, and lining the ceiling and walls with a waterproof material such as ceramic tile, stone, or glass. A steam generator can be installed in a cabinet or other unused space up to about fifty feet away, and the plumbing and electrical connections are similar to those of a residential water heater. A water feed and a connection to a drain are necessary, and a bath fan (already common to most bathrooms) ducted to the outside is highly recommended. Please call or email us with any questions you may have regarding the purchase of either a steam shower or steam generator.
